Geoffrey Chaucer

He was an English poet from the 1300's. His last name is french and it comes from the Latin last name and it means shoemaker. He was in the French war. He was taken as a prisoner of war. When he was set free and returned he was granted a pension of twenty marks. He was given the name dilectus vallectus noster which in English means our beloved yeoman. He married philippa who also received a pension of ten marks. In his life he wrote The Book of the Duchesse in honor of John of Grant's wife, who died in 1334.
